  • Red Duke of York

Reading the thread below I have decided to sort out my spuds early this year.

I thought I might try something new i.e. Red Duke of York, has anyone grown this one and with what results and very important whats the taste like.

I attempted to grow this one this year, after tasting them in the supermarket, and thought they had a lovely flavour. However ALL my potatoes got blight (yes even the earlies!)

I would give them a go

Poor results for me last year compared with other varieties, low yielding and prone to going into the water on boiling.

Red DOY is the best of the best for me. Flourie and tasty. It does tend to be susceptible to blight but start them off early to avoid that problem. Great boiled, mashed and chipped and of course the first boiling with a bit of butter is to die for

I've grown them successfully in the past. Good thing is you can lift early as second earlies or leave to get bigger and have nice jacket potatoes. I would grow it if I had more room. Only have small allotment

One of my old favourites and a gorgeous taste. It's been around a while and I think there's a reason why
