Thats a plot and a half!

I got my 5 pole plot about 15 months ago and since then depsite the rubbish weather have got the weed/ grass covered plot into good shape. But with my seed addiction, I was soon to need another plot to grow them all in. I asked the warden a few times, but wasn't offered one until today. And because of the time of year was given a choice of about 10 plots!

So me, the bloke and the warden wondered around the various plots for an hour in the rain. One of the plots had a really good mixture of fruit trees, but was right next to a building that had a loud buzz from the airconditioning. Another 4/5 plots hadn't been worked for a year or two. One was next to a grumpy neighbour. One apparently had bad soil. Some had sheds and some didn't.

Anyway we're like 95% decided on one which doesn't have a shed or green house, but does have various fruit trees, at least figs and apples, but hard to tell just yet. And its 16 poles. So with the old plot we'll have 21 poles!

Lots of possibilities to play with and we can deal with it a section at a time. And lots to do, so can burn of the christmas excess! Can't wait to get going!

Yeah I will try and get photos soon. I don't even know what plot number it is! Hoping to make a little forrest garden in th orchard bit. I want to put in a pond to help control the snugs. May get a green house or a polytunnel. Boyfriend wants to build a roundhouse. Existing plot holder is removing some plants before we get it. Lots of glass to clear. Lots to do, but warden thinks we are capable.

Lucky you, kathy! You must have worked very hard to prove that you were capable of taking on more. Enjoy it

I had two plots in different parts of the site for a while I was changing from one to the other, and I found it difficult. Every tool I wanted was on the other plot, I kept getting stuck into working one plot when I really should've been working on the other. You might be more disciplined than me though.

Yeah, we did want one near us. But then, we saw this had more trees on it and was 16 poles. The smaller plot is no dig, so hopefully wont need so many tools! But thats where the shed is. The walk between will do us good. Ha ha.

Want to make a pond on the big one, does anyone grow any edibable plants in ponds? Going to see what James Wong suggests.

Nice one. It's not easy keeping so many poles going but you soon learn how.

Cheers, yeah will be interesting, but we figure this plot is in sections, so no need to do it all at once. So far ideas are a roundhouse on the concrete area. Possibly a poly tunnel or green house. A bed for acid loving plants, we have lots of blueberries in pots at the moment. A pond to help slug control and possibly to grow stuff in. The trees will be a forest garden of sorts. A bed for traditional plants such as skirret and ground cheshnut. Will try and grow as many perrenials as poss. Hmm if only my tax return was as interesting as planning a new plot!

We took another look yesterday, there is a lot to do, but we feel we can do in stages. I think one of the first jobs will be to use the old greenhouse bed as an acidic bed for blueberry style plants. Also getting cardboard down to kill some weeds and might get some manure down too.

That's a lovely looking plot! There are some ones near us that were brambles last week today they've been completely cleared, but not as nice looking as yours!

Cheers, think the plot has been worked until fairly recently, but then given up on. A lot of people gave up this year, due to the bad weather. There are a few brassica looking things growing. The first plot we took on was just grass and bindweed and brambles when we got it.
