I was just wondering for any tips really.

I have two manure heaps well rotted and I cant seem to get people interested in taking it. I sent an email to all the allotment people round my area, I had no joy :-(

I am based in essex waltham abbey, I am selling it rather cheap in comparison to some and they are very large size. the heaps are very well looked after too.

    Suggestions ..... greatly appreciated.

People are a bit suspicious of horse manure nowadays, because of the risk of Aminopyralid contamination. What have your horses been fed on?

RL's right Tallulah, you might have one heck of a job even giving it away.

If you want rid of it then ask by email again at the local places what's stopping them from buying it.

If it's price then you'll have something to think about.
If it's because they have no way of getting it home then you can think about that too.

If all else fails then gumtree or email the local council bloke in charge of allotments to ask if anyone wants any. After that it's freecycle.

It may be they have a free supply of it - but once you know why they don't want any (And you can test if it'll germinate seeds as detailed here)

If you've got enough to fill a lorry, mushroom growers might be interested, if you've good access. Most people seem to think you should give it away, and bagged up and delivered too!

Hi, I'm based in Barnet, North London, and I think I saw this advertised at some point. I've only a small car, so wouldn't be keen to transport manure in it. Especially as its half an hour drive. I've just taken on another plot at my allotment and would be willing to pay for someone to transport it there. But can get that arranged through my allotment for £35 for a truckload delivered. Obviously this may mean its not worth it for you, as profit would be low. I do also have access to manure at my allotment for £1 a barrow, but its still pretty fresh.

Stables give it away free and whilst they do that people will not pay. They'd sooner bag it and move it. I have access to two places and have stopped taking it because a, you get a lot of grass seed in it and b, Aminopyralid is prevalent. Horse owners seem not to be able to verify whether their horses graze on unsprayed fields or eat unsprayed hay.

I got some a fortnight ago from a local stables. They charged 50 pence a bag. We had to provide the bag, and then wheelbarrowed it to the car. The bags were as big as we could manage. I used a dozen or so builders rubble bags. We, I say we, was pops, shovelled it for me from a huge great big pile of poop. I would certainly go again; though I don't know the provenance of the poop, it is where my lotment neighbours go.

                        Manure

                        Hi
I read your post and would be very grateful to know where to get a truckload of manure as my allotment needs some. I am in North London , N6.
                        Thanks in anticipation.

Hi, I don't have the persons number, but will try and get it off the allotment warden. Obviously the £35 is to Barnet not to N6 so the cost is likely higher. On reflection the original posters manure was well rotted, the stuff we get is fresh. So theres may be better.

Tallulahjay, unfortunately Essex is a bit too far for me; I only have a car so couldn't transport a big enough load to make it worthwhile. Hope you find a keen grower near you to take it off your hands.

I would be overwhelmingly grateful for a load of horse manure, but there are no stables round here giving it away or even selling it (our local riding school is contracted to send it all to RHS Wisley). If anyone is / knows of somewhere close to Windsor Berks with a heap, please let me know! We could be poo pals....

However, I can get quantities of cow manure. Without wishing to hijack the thread, are there any problems with using that?

Royal stables, army stables, may be worth a try.
