Price of seed potatoes

Kerrs Pink seed potatoes are a very popular variety both in Scotland and Ireland, due to their dry and floury nature. Kerrs Pink tubers are normally short and oval with slightly deep eyes and are at their very best eaten when simply boiled in their beautiful, pink skins.

They have good blight resistance and long-term storage ability.

Yep us Irish love them. Every farmer about my way grew tonnes of them, never a wet spud to be found. Shame, I like wet spuds. But the pinks are a very easy variety to grow, and give decent yields in almost any soil. Some of the heavy blue clays back home are unbelievable, and yet still produced good pinks.

I have just spoke to Marshalls to confirm my potato order. I ordered back at the begining of Dec so am going to get everything OK.

However they have confirmed they are short on vareities for new orders including Lady C.

just bought 2 small packs of maincrop scottish seed spuds from a place called price pounder kerrs pink 6 seed spuds (never heard of them) and good old king edwards 8 seedspuds 69p each per pkt as anyone grown the kerrs pink before ? what are they like ?

They are the same packs that they're selling in my local B&M. Might be worth a look if peeps are struggling to find any.

HC, the one thing Kerr's Pink are not like are the spuds shown in the photo on the pack. Kerr's Pink have very deep eyes, they are not smooth and shallowed eyed. They are a very late to mature variety, good cropper, great keepers and as others have said floury and tasty.

Yep, have grown with my late Grandfather and as others have said, I found them very tasty...best boiled in saucepan...

popped into derby garden centre today they have all the usual suspects in the bags 5/6 or 10 in some for 1.99 to 2.49 and 2 kg bags for 3.99.

they also have a selection of fill a bag for 1.99 so i did 5 charlotte for a planter 5 international kidney and 15 desiree total 25 tubers weight 2.4 kilos cost 1.99 result a mondo mon potato..

That sounds like a good deal Phil. Went today to the local garden centre to buy my main maincrop potatoes, Piccolo, which had just arrived. They charge £1.60 a kilo, so I picked 30 large tubers, 5 of Accord, and 5 of Casablanca. Total cost was £6.72. So the grand total this year for 12 varieties of potato is just over £12, or a quid each. I reckon that's not bad.

I always get my seed pots in pughs garden centre, Radyr. Loose pots about 3.99 to fill a bag, approx 28 pots will fill the bag. Also a very good range of earlies' 2nd earlies and maincrop..
