  • Caring for Marrows

    Hi all
I have transpalnted my Marrow plants into the Allotment today. Do they need any special care and attention or will they manage with just water when needed?
    Regards

Watch out for slugs! Also water VERY frequently. Marrows are about 98% water!

      Chuffer,
Flummery's advice on slug control and watering are spot on.
I would add that if you didn't add lots of homemade compost or farmyard manure at the time of planting out, then you'll need to feed them with a liquid feed when the fruits are setting. They are very responsive to manure and/or feeding. I used to use my own poultry manure and produced marrows well over 20lbs weight.
Also, you might need to assist pollination, since the plant has both male and female "flowers"

Keeping the growing marrows off the ground is a good idea

      Hope this helps,

..Oh and in the event of a frost being forecast cover the whole plant in something protective for the night.
