  • Spuds from last year

I have just discovered a tray of potatoes that I chitted last year but I didnt get them in the ground as it got too wet. They are a bit shrivelled up but the sprouts are still on them and looking good. Do you think if I put them in the ground this year they would grow? Worth a punt or just throw them away and buy new ones?

Not much to lose. If they don't grow you'll still have time to replant.

Personally, I would chuck them. I have new seed ready to use

always worth a try,put 1 in a pot, just for maybe a bit earlier and easier look at how they performing, the rest in the ground,i would also try 1 on some damp paper, purley to see what response you get initialy, why waste what you got,

Depends on how much space you have. If they're dried up then their internal food supply will be low and I'd not expect as good a result as with fresh seed potatoes. However they might do fine. Depends if you have space to sow back ups (you won't know how they're doing in time to replace).

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

ok folks, the consensus seems to be that its worth a punt, so I will, thanks for all the input so far. I wont be too gutted if they dont do anything though. And will try and remember also to let you know of any success or failure, incase anyone is interested at some point later on. xx

I also have some chitted seed potatoes from almost a year ago, they look happy enough so I'll pop them in at their usual planting time.
