How many of you grow Sunflowers inbetween Cucumbers and Marigolds inbetween Tomatoes? I do, I've done it every year for the last 3 or 4 years. I'm wondering who doesn't bother and if there's any difference? Any opinions appreciated.

Never heard of the sunflower thing (my cucs taste great they way they are) but always grow marigolds with my toms (not sure if it makes a real difference but they look lovely and it's something my grandad always did and it reminds me of visiting him as a kid ). Do grow sunflowers outside, partially ornamental and partially for the seeds.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I tried growing marigolds with the toms in the greenhouse border, but the sluggies ate them. I rescued the last few sorry survivors and put them in pots on the staging instead, and they were fine there. Don't know if they were responsible, but I never had any problems with insects or disease in the greenhouse all summer; the only thing I got was blight towards the end of the season.
Didn't know about sunflowers and cucs... I have some dwarf SF seeds, so that might be fun to try!

I grow various sorts of marigolds dotted all round the veg garden, just bunging the plants in where there is a gap. So not very scientific.
I too, have never heard the sunflower thing and am a little sceptical as to how proximity can effect flavour. But I'm always open minded.
Sunflowers get grown for the birds - its the marsh tits who go nuts for them here.Le Sarramea https://jgsgardening.blogspot.com/
