Tyria Cucumbers

Hi All - I grew these in the polytunnel a few years ago and had the most terrific crop of really big tasty cucumbers. Since then I have not managed to get any seed.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get some

Just googled it and found a few suppliers, ebay being one.

Thanks Z, but I tried that before posting.

They all seem to be in the states, even the one listed as UK ebay was, and I did consider buying them from him, but the description he has given is for a completely different cucumber, so I don't fancy going to the trouble of sending for them and growing them only to find 7 or 8 months down the line they aren't what I thought

Of course it might have just been a good cucumber year but they really did give an exceptional crop. I planted four and supplied the whole of the parish and any visitors and delivery men with cucumbers plus we ate it at every available opportunity cooked and raw.

I have tried Diana and Camilla () since then plus a few miscellaneous types but nothing has come anywhere near - hence my post.

I can't make any suggestions on Tyria cucumbers, but the most productive one I've ever grown is Carmen (F1)

It's an absurd price for seed. But it kicks out a good long cucumber at every leaf node (every 6 inches), and each plant will be strung out with 7 cucumbers at differing stages all the way to the tip. I would quibble with the statement 50 to 100 cucs per plant that's on the site. I can believe it.

I've taken in the past to "culling" 2 out of 3 at an early stage as myself and the Mrs can't keep up with the produce from a single plant.

I will say however, that one plant grown in two thirds of a grow bag on it's end, keeping up with watering is a task. And the downside to the variety is that if it does get too dry, the plant will drop all cucumbers on it at that point. And so, I grow 2 - not due to wanting yet more cucumbers, but it case I've missed a watering and the cucs have dropped, I'm more likely to have some on the other plant.

If you can grow it in the ground, I don't think you'd have the same watering issues.

Otherwise, good hunting for the variety you're looking for!

That looks as though it is probably the successor to Tyria

I could kick myself - I only just put in a T&M order on 18 Jan I don't get much from them now as they are so expensive, but they have the odd thing I can't get from elsewhere Mind you their seeds are £1.25 each - Dobies and Browns have them at 80p each

Even better I have just done a long internet trawl and come up with a seed suppliers I haven't come across before - theirs's are just under 70p each, and postage only 65p on all seed orders.

I think any of you who havent ordered yet would do well to have a look here. Their bulk packets would be excellent value for group orders

Thanks veggiechick - have read through the thread and it looks like a good firm to deal with

I don't blame them for not putting a ph number on. People will often phone rather than email, and if you are a small firm you would spend nearly all day on the ph and never get anything done

I want to go through his entire list before I order as I feel there may be other seeds I may want to try from them. His bulk asparagus seed looks excellent value, and I that was only on the 'A' s in his veggie list :-)
