    Stew,

Very Funny so what will you be thinking about when you plant the potatoes? and what will you be doing when you are thinking about planting the potatoes?

This year I plan to plant some potatoes but for once not just use some extras from the supermarket.

I have realised that I'm looping round and round, overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of choice!
          don't be sorry ....
once you've grown your own and tried a few varieties, you won't want to go back to the "basic white"s you've been using! some varieties taste like ordinary whites, others taste sooooooo much better

4 adults, 2 kids, plenty of space = grow whatever you want to!

definitely grow well known varieties - you'll get what you expect and you'll ensure you have enough to feed yourselves - grow some of the other varieties and see what you like

one garden centre near me sells numerous varieties as singles - pick and mix to fill a bag - i did this a couple of years ago, but forgot which were which - if you can do this, do it, but take a marker pen to write on each one as you bag it - and probably worth growing these singles in old compost sacks or large tubs so you can mark which is which

this year i'll be planting salad spuds / 1st earlies in the ground - they'll come out early so leeks can go in - i'll grow 2nd earlies / maincrops in old compost sacks (lots of them!) - they take longer to grow and if i grow them in the ground, they take up space that could be used for leeks

i'll also do the pick and mix with other varieties, all in old compost sacks - and this year i'll be careful to label everything properly!

With the shortage of seeds this year there may not actually be that many to choose from - Lady Christl appear to be in short supply

Possibly the perfectly placed postulation of pertinent passage of prose pertaining to potatoes for the plate
