I am doing a project on exciting crops which can be grown in the UK. Does anyone have any ideas for anything different from around the globe which might be good. I hope to test drive them on my allotment? :-)

Hello Cheeky (Sounds like the M@rket advert).....you will get more advice if you ask mods to move your post to either the veggie section or the allotment section........sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Thanks Jeanied,
Well apart from the normal allotment crops (which I love too!), I have acquired plants of honey berry, pineapple guava, chilean guava, Chinese artichokes, elephant garlic, yacon, Tasmanian Mountain Pepper. I have seeds for cucamelon, electric daisies. I already have blueberries and goji (though I may have dig the gojis up,they fruit prolifically but don't taste too good...tried goji gin as a last resort... :-x)
I'm thinking of also doing achocha which sounds fun if I can find where to buy the seeds (Real Seeds are out of stock).
James Wong s book has been really useful...I was just wondering if there were other things...

My most exciting crops have been in the cucumber, squash and pumpkin family. Oh and chillies and peppers.
I like to go for unusual colours in veg as well - salad blue potatoes have been a big hit here.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I've got tons of Achocha.
Where are you based cheeky?
I'm just about to do a multi-pack-up of Yacon, Oca, Cinnamon Vine, Potato Onions, Achoca and any other interesting rarer crops for sale on Ebay - half are from Garden Organic that we didn't sell last week [originally from Real Seeds], and half are from my own stash. I'll let you know when they are available. Probably some time after next Wednesday. Just got to confirm prices from GO and I'll calculate it all down - calculate it all back up again and then it will be available to buy.
I won't be making any profit [the additional extras are free gratis from me] - it will all be going back to Garden Organic.Last edited by zazen999; 02-02-2013, 10:01 AM.
