  • Spring sowing squashes and pumpkins

Here in the GYO office we love our winter squashes and pumpkins and we're sure you do, too! We're also aware that it is truly terrible to utter the 'W' word before we have even got into summer! But, as we're already thinking about spring sowing, we'd like to know your favourite varieties to grow. What makes them so special – is it the flavour, size, colour or are they easy to grow?

Favourite (and most reliable to ripen) is Sugar Pie Pumpkin. Who does not love Pumpkin Pie?

Most reliable - my namesake Thelma Sanders
Then Celebration - small but sweet and tasty
Harrier a reliable small butternut, that even managed to ripen last year
and Tromba d'Albegna because it has huge flowers and is a real talking point growing up it's wigwam LOL

I've never grown either but I'm tempted to give it a go this year.
