has anybody grown mung beans?

not sprouting them I mean, actually growing the plants? I've got a huge bag at work and thought I might give it a go, we've got light banks so I can get them started pretty early, just thought I might give it a go, just because .....Just wondered if anyone had any success getting them to produce

thats really cool, i've done a bit of reading so I shall have a go - lets hope for a warm summer! apparently they have yellow flowers, so if nothing else they might be quite pretty!

I've tried it twice, once outside in the UK, and then here in the polytunnel in France. They do actually grow but you then get a tiny plant with a few tiny seed pods and a tiny handful of mung beans if you are lucky. It's rather like growing lentils... it can be done, but WHY? Most of these crops are grown on a field scale in an appropriate climate and harvested by machine. That's the only way you get a usable quantity.

just because I suppose, I'm a science technician in a FE college so I suppose it's just me experimenting. I've seen the rigorous growth that these plants put on and thought i'd give it a whirl, might just grow a few out of curiosity.

The students only ever keep them going for a few weeks until the summer so i've never seen them through to maturity.....
