Would love to be able to grow everything we need but some way off that at the moment. I can't grow everything we need so tend to buy things like spud and grow more high value veg.

Until recently I had a limited growing space, we were self sufficient ish seasonally in some things (toms/cucs/beans/peas/salad/herbs/spring onions/peppers/chilli/courgette/sweetcorn). We've got a bit more space now so hoping to extend the range and get more wintery stuff available (and get a bit more organised).

I rarely buy wine as I make it, though sometimes from kits.

Would love a couple of hens - but 1 thing at a time!
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

Having a tunnel this year will, I hope, make it easier to grow more and overwinter green veg. I have ordered seeds from Real Seeds that should provide throughout the winter, and have plenty of carrots in and out of the PT and leeks ready to go out once the bitter wind changes direction. Even so there will be times when we shall be eating the same things every day. Even freezing peppers, tomatoes and everything freezable I reckon we'll be lucky to manage 70% self-sufficiency.

Self sufficient in onions and garlic, then try to use what we have in the garden before buying, however something normally fails and then it's off to the shops to buy, however I try to buy as little as possible.

Some months I am self sufficient in a lot of Veg however I don't yet grow onions as I don't have the space. I get quite a lot of spares and as I only have a tiny three drawer freezer mostly filled with meat (much to my disappointment as I don't eat most of it) I don't have space to freeze any so expect for what I preserve in jars it gets given away.

We are about 80% self sufficient in fruit and veg. Last year's pots ran out at the end of March and stored onions were finished by mid-Jan, so provided we eat everything else seasonally, pots, onions and garlic are all we have to buy at some stage. Mrs Vince's uncle is a butcher so we get some freebies off him from time to time, including cheese and eggs, so whilst we'll never be totally self-sufficient in our suburban neighbourhood, we're not far off and are living proof that if you put in the effort, food miles could become a thing of the past.

I still rely on the shops for most things. I'm slowly trying to become more self-sufficient though but I'm a long way off yet.
