  • Probably silly question about last years cabbages?

Last year was my first attempt at brassica's and it was pretty much a disaster, what the 'drought' didn't ruin, the catterpillars did

I still have a few of my cabbages in the ground, they didn't really amount to anything, but they still look pretty healthy can I leave them? Will they eventually grow into something a little better, or should I pull them and start again?

Also, can I still eat the leaves as they are now, as spring green type things? How would I cook them?

Sorry for so many questions, I am still learning and making tons of mistakes and I have no one else to ask x

Yes, you can eat the leaves - and cook them just as you would any cabbage leaves. The outer leaves will be tougher and you may want to take the central "stalk" out of it first, otherwise, use as normal

If you leave them in the ground they will form seed heads, but you can use the leaves as VC said.

I'm still eating the last of my winter cabbages (always do at this time of year) and they're fine. As said above though they won't grow any bigger now and with warmer weather will bolt fairly soon.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
