I sowed my first lot on 30/12/12 in loo rolls on the kitchen window sill , they started to germinate on 9/1/13 so were moved to conservatory, then outside in blowaway and planted them out (under a cloche) on 3/3/13......I've got 2nd sowing in blowaway hardening off ,sown 30/1/13 germinated 13/2/13 and third sowing in conservatory ..sown21/2/13 germinated 7/3/13 .......I'm trying to be organised about things this year

just noticed something odd.......they seem to be taking longer to germinate

I've been soaking mine in a saucer of water before sowing when the little root thingy appears. A few went to soak on 16th Feb, and are just about ready to pot on now. I potted up a few earlier ones on 16th at the same time, and a couple have just poked their heads through - so not a quick process!

I planted mine at the end of Feb, in tubes. Checked to see what was happening the other day, not rotted. Just having a lie in.

The warmer it is, the quicker it is.

Thing is, in this weather you don't WANT quick growth, you want the plants to grow hard and tough

Don't know about breaking through the soil, but they're not through the snow yet...
