  • Celery stalk experiment!!

Yet another of my wacky attempts to grow veg from leftovers that might otherwise end up in the compost bin. This time its celery tops
I cut the leaves and a bit of stalk off the celery head and put 4 of them in water. One of them has rooted. Now to pot it up and see what happens next.

If you look closely you'll see some ghostly hands at work

    Ooooh!

Do let us know how you get on! I'm trying to grow celery this year but I've tried before and I'm not holding out much hope so if this works I'll be following suit!

Why don't you buy yourself a celery head with leaves and give it a go too. I don't want to be the only Celery stalk Nutter in the world

You're on! I shall get a good leafy one next time I visit the shops and make, what will, to all intents and purposes, look like a crazy flower arrangement!

                  Celery Stalk update 8th April

Planted out two of my celery experiments - one grown from the base of the celery has several new stalks growing and had been planted in the GH bed. The other, from a rooted leaf and section of stalk was in need of repotting - roots growing out of the flowerpot
I've planted them in an old water tank, under the GH guttering, which will keep the soil wet.

I hope I'm growing perennial celery

I hope you're not growing something more sinister.

that's a thought, if celery is biennial, then theoretically, the plant should flower?
