garlic leaves breaking!!!

hi all,

I put a thread on here a few weeks ago about weather or not I need to stake the garlic I am growing.

Well, please see attached pictures of the leaves folding over and snapping

What should I do???

Personally, I'd leave them to get on with it, and not worry about the occasional snapped leaf or two. I've never heard of staking garlic I would not have thought it necessary.

I'd agree. They do look a bit brittle but it's the outside leaves. If you think they are growing, I would give them a feed (or at least pee on them). I panicked about my garlic lots last year and it was totally fine in the end. It doesn't grow like an onion - it looks more like a leek for most of the season.

You could use what the exhibition onion growers use which is basically a long wire pushed into the ground with a loop at the top to support the leaves.

Or you could just gather the leaves together and put a laccy band around them!
