  • new cage up (photo)

my new cage is up, so now i can keep my plants safe from the birds.
onion sets in, pea's sticks and pea's in, so this time i will be able to stop the birds taking my peas, and the onions will stay where i put them.
my hubby worked hard all day errecting the cage and it was a beautiful day.

don't be too sure you won't find your onion sets out of the ground despite your investment. They have a habit of pushing themselves out as the roots develop.

i live in the sticks and the birds are forever eating my plants, last year i planted my pea's 3 times, the pigeons was having a good old snack, also i have ducks and chickens so now i can keep them off, they are only let on through the winter months when they eat the slugs.

the poles are steel which are drilled into the sleepers.

Looks great. I have cheap ones made with canes and hose and it's very annoying to have to remove the netting, etc.

thats brilliant ... i need to make a fruit cage to keep the blackbirds etc off my blackcurrants etc....dont have any sleepers (There is a disused railway line at the end of my garden but dont think I dare steal the sleepers!)and anyway they will be covered in creosote....but I do have pallets which i might use...wait for a good weather day and have a go! Thanks....
