my compost keeps drying within a day!

I'm trying to germinate chillies and toms in an airing cupboard which is next to a radiator and I'm finding I'm having to water daily as if I don't the compost in 7cm pots goes bone dry and not sure if the seeds will still be OK as the compost has dried several times.

Is there a way to create moisture in such a dry place? Also maybe something to keep in mind is that the peppers will be going g under cfl lights this week.

Well mine go in the airing cupboard with a plastic cover over ....if they look a bit dry then I give 'em a spray .

If you don't have a plastic bag wrap in cling film.

I'd cover it with a plastic bag - clear bag over the pot with an elastic band. Use lolypop stick to keep it 'errect'

Alternatives - put in a tray of water...

Open container of water in the airing cupboard would increase the humidity and reduce evapouration from the seed pot??

Poundland have 2 clear plastic domes for pots that are probably that sort of size...

Same as Bins for me... Cover them with plastic lid or similar and spray with mist if looking dry

Use a plastic bag. You probably don't want a humid airing cupboard...

I reuse the clear plastic breakers from a water dispenser,inverted they are a perfect single seedling cloche & FREE

i use the clear big yoghurt pots put over an opaque one with the seedling planted in,the moisture runs back down into the pot,less watering needed,i put a little bit of sticky tape around the join to hold them steady and being in a deeper pot means very little repotting,i plant straight from these into their final big pots in the greenhouse...
