ive found that sowing them into a seed bed then transplanting is the best way to get good sized leeks. this yr im growing lyon for autumn and bandit for winter harvests. make sure you grow a hardy winter type or they can turn mushy when it gets very frosty in the winter. last yr i grew sub zero and autum mammoth and had great yields from both.

But have you personally seen it? I just ask cos mine have stood through all sorts of winter weather with no mushiness.

"Kong Richard"??? What a dreadful name - it deserves to go mushy

They can't decide if it's "Kong" or "King", so they used both

Thanks all! I picked up some Swiss Giant Zermatt today for early ones and I'm thinking Bleu de Solaise for winter.
                      March is the new winter.

I've heard of King Richard leeks but Kong - sounds like one of those ridiculous names for the sake of advertising:-
"Try Kong Richard and grow leeks as big as the Empire State Building"
(with apologies to any gorillas who may be watching )
