Ildi v Golden Crown tomatoes

Despite having way more varieties of seed than I have space to grow, I thought I'd got my tomato varieties for this year sorted. I had planned on growing Ildi but I have now acquired some Golden Crown seeds. If I grow the Golden Crown the Ildi will have to go as I don't have space for both (not prepared to give up any of the other varieties I want to grow this year). Does anyone have experience of either (or preferably both)? Both in terms of flavour and practical considerations (how early, disease resistance, tolerance to rubbishy summers etc.) to help me make up my mind?

I grow idli every year in the greenhouse and would definitely recommend it, flavour is good, prolific, fruits last well on the vine (well into winter when the plant has died the trusses are still excellent condition) and doesn't get any disease. Don't know how it would fare outside - that just depends on the weather....!

Thanks. How early are Ildi? I gather golden crown are pretty early but I confess to knowing next to nothing about them apart from that. I will be growing them in a plastic greenhouse.

Nobody grown golden crown?

I am tempted to just stick with the Ildi but I am intrigued by the golden crown. Maybe I'll sow both and put off the decision until they are seedlings.

Didn't know they were called that Packet just says Golden Crown. Told you I knew nothing about them!

I didn't either until I goggled them! There are some in the VSP if you want to swap Ildi too

VC, your right Golden Crown is GoldenKrone.

Have tried growing Ildl but it didn't go well - poor crop, but GoldenKrone has always been reliable for me. Nice and early plus tasty. I'm at a bit of a loose end today but think I'm ready to sow some seeds, no guessing required what I'm going to sow.

Started sowing and a thought has popped into my head. Two or three years ago Jim McColl tried growng Ildl and didn't find the crops good either. Maybe just too far north for Ildl?

I know I'm mis-spelling Ildi but when I'm typing I keep on thinking of Lidl. The iPad and the Vine ain't communicating too well so can't go back and correct spelling
