  • Anyone grown Maxine spuds?

Went to the allotment shop a while ago and asked for boring old Desiree seed potatoes which do well on my plot and are good 'all rounders'.
The guy at the allotment shop sez "No, we don't get Desiree now as these red skinned Maxine are much better and favoured by the punters.
I've looked them up and there outward appearnce is similar to Desiree but the flesh is white.
Just wondered if anyone on here had grown them and what sort of crop they'd had? Also, what was there flavour and cooking characteristics?
I've got them now, and they are well chitted, so I'm hoping for positive feedback............hopefully!

    Hi Snadge,

I'll give you the good news first. They are a really bonny tattie and are frequently seen on the showbench. Good cropper. Flesh is white and pretty tasteless. I've stopped growing them for that reason. Mash them and add some grated cheese though, at least that way they are quite tasty

I picked up some tubers from the Ryton potato day. First time growing them this year. Will keep in mind adding a load of grated cheese.
