    Rant in progress ..
The cold has delayed starting my sowing, I blame the weather people!

I started my chillies off inside on a heated growing tray.
Once they germinated I put the tray in the greenhouse for light.
But it couldn't cope with the cold.
I had an old wine demijohn heated mat that got a bit hotter, needed a stand off else it would have fried them.
    Cover with newspaper at night.
Still it only just keeps up the temp.
However they have germinated and now need potting on.

So the big propagator will need powering up and I will start all my early sowings.

The GH was too cold for my old body to work in.
So a found my Granddads old Aladdin paraffin heater in the back of my garage.
Needs paraffin and this forum suggested some places to buy it.
I went to Homebase and it was over 7.00 for a 4 litres, extortionate !

Anyway I will be nice and warm whist I am in the GH.

What's the best temp (minimum) for chillies once they have started ?

Off to GH now to start.....

    Rant over.

Absolute minimum 5c, but they would be much happier at 10c.

Mine are indoors on an east facing windowsill, ie bright but not hot. Min temp is 14c at a guess (the room is min of 16c but next to the glass is a fair bit colder)

The temp is perfect: they're growing, but slow-and-steady, not tall-and-lanky-and-weak

My gh is 0c - 5c and even the hardy stuff (peas, broad beans) aren't putting on much growth in there

        Thanks for the replies.

I think my big propagator should keep the temperature OK.

However I can feel my Wallet twitching in my pocket as the electric meter starts spinning like a whirling dervish !

Mine have invaded (again)... Daughter playing with last years plants and several (pods?) had been split. Now I have damn chillies being a weed in my raised bed for the second year.

I feel another mass-composting of them coming on... But they look so pretty!...
