  • Pots or open ground??

The Broad beans are due to be planted on the second of this month. The question is, should I plant them in pots in the tunnel or in the ground? The forecast is for minus temperatures overnight fo at least the rest of the week up until next Sunday.

    What are your thoughts please.

By 'plant' do you mean sow seeds, or plant out ones you've already sown? If you mean the first thing, I'd sow them into pots, less chance of them rotting in freezing cold soil. If you mean the second, and they're hardened off, I'd plant them out and wrap them in fleece.

Sorry, I should have been clearer I meant sow the seeds.

I know bugger all about broadies except that neither SWMBO or I like them.

However the way I am looking at planting this year is, 'if I plant now I am going to gain nothing due to the weather' but I could risk loosing my seed. Therefore I am going to give it another week before I venture outside.

Looks like pots in the tunnel then. According to the moon it is the 2nd of March or not until the 15th and I do want Broadies this year!!!!

Um... I know we're an hour ahead in France, but I didn't realise we were a month behind as well . You did mean April not March presumably? You've not something daft like I do, and lost a whole month somewhere have you?? Lol . I soaked and planted about 10 broadies a while ago, but only 3 came up - maybe I should look into this lunar planting thing too!
