  • Greenhouse disaster!!

Been out to the greenhouse this morning and was shocked to see the temp had fallen to -2 deg. What? Turns out the heater has broken. And it was only yesterday that I moved the tomatoes, peppers etc out of the extra protection of the blowaway inside the greenhouse. At least they all had lids over them still, but I suspect they will all lie dormant now while they recover from the cold.

Oh well, new job for today is to get a new heater. I think I have seen them for sale in Wilkos.

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, either but don't let them get too much sun during the day after their shock over night, keep them fleeced up.

I had the exact same thing happen, a couple of weeks ago, except the temp dropped to -5c. I only had 2 plants survived it It's absolutely gut-wrenching Hope yours pull through x

It was the fuse in the conservatory socket that feeds the power to the greenhouse. Which also means the heated propagator failed as well.

Look on the bright side - you don't need to buy a new heater - or propagator

I has similar happen when the electric heater fuse went in the middle of the night -4C.

Fortunately the delicates were covered and the tomatoes survived.

I am now fleecing at night as insurance.

My big propagator has some bubble wrap rolled up in the day.
But in the evening I go out and unroll it.
Mainly to save on the electric, but could be useful if things fail !
