SWMBO has just returned from ASDA with a bag of Albert Bartlett Purple Majesty potatoes. 1.25 kilos for £1-50p.

Never seen this one before so I have snatched one for the chitting tray. Needless to say I shall try some tonight and if they are good and the seed shows signs of life I may nip back to ASDA for some more.

When my parents lived in Maine they had a friend who grew blue/purple potatoes - the ladies at church finally asked him to stop bringing his potato bread to potluck dinners because it looked mouldy!

That said, they make very pretty lavender-coloured mash.

I grew some from Doobies last year. They are great and have more antioxidants than normal potatoes. I've done them roast, jacket and mashed, also in a stir fry (by my boyfriend) I love them.

I've got some from sainsburys and will chit a couple. I'm not growing any other potatoes this year- I'm doing oca, mashua, dahlia yams and yacon instead.

I did order some from JBA this year (as I grew salad blue last year), and unfortunately they had to send me a replacement (which was salad blue).

I've got far too many spuds already so another 2kgs from wilko is out of the question.

Anyhow, the Salad Blues were good, and I'm looking forward to growing them again.

i have just spent nearly 3 hours going round all the stores trying to get some blue/purple spuds,a complete waste of time,none to be had,it looks like we will have to travel 20 miles tomorrow to see if the big garden centre in ayr have any,its daft,scots bred pots not available in this part of scotland...,tried wilkos,aldi,lidl,b&m and 3 others.....i want me blue chips and roasties,with a horse and kidney pie,mushy peas etc.....
