  • Growing onions from seed

I've planted 20 onion seeds in a propagator and now am wondering whether it would of been better to have waited and planted them straight into the ground.

    Will onions transplant?

I know this must seem like a bit of a daft question but its my first year growing onions from seed instead of from sets.

onions transplant very well. With the soil still cold it is a good move giving them a head start by sowing them in a propagator.

I'm using the propagators more than ever before, this year, because it's so cold.

Anything I've sown without the extra heat, hasn't come up. So I've got 3 heated on the go, plus half a dozen trays under clingfilm, and a few more with those clear plastic lids. Haven't ever had to use them before, in April, ffs
