  • Patty Pan & Spaghetti Squash

    Just a quick question....

Will it be warm enough to germinate Patty Pan & Spaghetti Squash in my plastic blowaway or should I put them in a warm room in the house?
Its sunny most of the day where its positioned.

    Any advice would be good

Mine are on a cold windowsill (our horrible north facing living room) Will harden them off when it warms up a bit more.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Another vote for in the packets

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Still in the packet. Won't be sowin til end of April, else they will take over me classroom. In the past I've used my magic seedbox to start them off. Not sure if I will just stick them on windowsills instead. But they will be babies started off in yogurt pots.

I have some BNS and pumpkins in pots - going out in tunnel during day and in house at night. They are growing quite well but I think it's that old thing of will they be any better than the ones I plant later.

Indoors for sure. And no more than 3 weeks before the last frost date, assuming that you'll spend 2 weeks or so hardening them off (out in the day, in at night). For me that means I won't be sowing them until the last week of April

Mine are getting sown today, BNS are my fave crop and I am going to do some experiments this year on early indoor sowing compared to direct sowing.

End of April sowing here too - last year I was shuffling loads of plants in and out every day/night. Did my swede in! They get very large, very fast too.. which made hardening off difficult.

I have sown some courgettes but only as indicators to how cold my greenhouse is getting; they have survived the week [not grown mind] under a cloche in the greenhouse but my proper cucurbits aren't going being sown yet at all; another 2-3 weeks.

                            Thanks everyone
Think I got a bit carried away as it was warm yesterday and new blowaway, I was keen to get sowing.
I shall bring them into house and into a warm room.

Last frosts "should be" end of April in cardiff but who knows this year.

That's the trouble with these little glimpses of spring. Lulls us into a false sense of security and you want to to get going.
I've left mine in the packet to. Resisting the urge!!
