I decided to try out the lasagne method on one large bed and the layers have nestled happily under a top layer of cardboard since the beginning of October. I was wondering what I could plant through the cardboard - potatoes, brassicas? What would you suggest?

Oh, another week yet Zaz!
I actually have "bad joke Friday" with my classes. Maths can get a bit heavy sometimes and I need to lighten it up a bit. As a result, the kids have to tell the worst jokes they can think of during the lesson. I would have "good joke Friday" but I would get sacked for telling the funny ones I know, as I know very few clean onesQuanti canicula ille in fenestra ?

Well I wouldn't do Brassica family as it's probably not very firm which would cause some issues. that about as much help as I can be I have already been to the car boot sale, allotment and father in laws today lol

We grow everything in our lasagne beds. Tomatoes, leeks, bok choy, chard, herbs, cabbage, broc and cauli, globe artichokes, lettuce, onions, celery. If it's deep enough turnips, carrots, parsnips. Snow peas, corn. Spring onions. Strawberries. Raspberries.Ali

Some days it's hardly worth chewing through the restraints!
One bit of old folklore wisdom says to plant tomatoes when the soil is warm enough to sit on with bare buttocks. In surburban areas, use the back of your wrist. Jackie French
