  • Carrot Fly...

Most of my carrots and parsnips got eaten last year and so this year I am resorting to drastic measures:

    1. I have planted 2 rows of flowers in between my normal carrots, yellow carrots and parsnips (Nasturitums or something)....

    2. When I thin them out I am going to place 6 airwicks in the rows to mask the smell...

    Any other tips?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Tried most things, although not airwicks I must admit!

Using enviromesh this year...expensive, but if it means I can get some edible carrots, so be it!

        Grow in tubs/bins above 30".
Companion plant Onions, leeks, Marigolds, Garlic.
Earth up joint between carrot top and leaf bottom.
As you pull a carrot, refill the hole with soil or sand
Do not disturb the surrounding soil, and pray!
All the best to you and yours,

This year, two weeks ago in fact, I have sown my carrots and parsnips in tubs just like Fred Perry suggests...with the added measure of chicken wire across the top to stop the neighbours cats jumping into them!!!! Good germination so far from the carrots tho' still waiting for parsnips to pop their leaves through. Fingers crossed...
If someone approaching you does not have a smile on their face...give them one of yours.

Enviromesh style netting over the whole crop, or fleece on early/late crops.
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted
