Can I plant these out yet?

Hi,

I have some small cabbage plants and wondered if I can plant them out yet. They have been hardening off for a while now and I would like to plant them out. They are about 2" tall.



I have the following options:

1) Don't plant yet - leave them in the coldframe.
2) Plant but cover with fleece
3) Plant but cover with mini cloches made from plastic bottles
4) Plant and leave them uncovered (forecast milder nights for the next few nights at least)

Advice or suggestions, please? Thank you.

I would leave them in the coldframe for another week as next week it is going to be milder and see if the week after will be mild or cold and then put them out covered in fleece That way will be on the safe side

You could if they have been hardened off correctly.

Having said that they have plenty of growing room left in those pots, so unless you need the room you could wait a while so they are stronger.

brrrr....only if it i sn't going to frost up, they don't min cold so much, but not freezing and the birds might eat them...

If you do plant them out and it's too cold, your plants will let you know, they will turn blue . As the others have said, grow them on a bit.

Thanks everyone. I've put them back in the coldframe for now and have put a cloche down over the ground where they will be planted to start warming the ground. I might plant them next week under the cloche.

Also bigger plants will be better equiped to cope with slugs munching on them.
