we have our first rain since early feb today, and the temp has dropped to 1degree,and after listening to the forecast yesterday morning i sowed a load of seed, only to see it go freezing again,so its fingers crossed time again....
Not much rain here unfortunately as the soil at the plot is quite dry at the moment. I've got quite a bit of stuff in the tunnel but outside I've only got some broad beans and early peas in addition to the overwintering stuff. Normally I'd plant out my spuds and sow carrots / parsnips as well as plant out the onions about now but am holding back a bit this year as the soil is still very cold and it's getting very chilly overnight still.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
At the plot - potatoes, broad beans, carrots, turnips, radishes, peas and onions.
At home I have PSB and garlic.
What have you got on yours?
in the ground :
broad beans (the sutton) just breaking the surface
potatoes bellana, mayan gold, desiree and pink fir
half bed of parsnips (true and tender)
4 rows of salad onion (lisbon)
3 rows radish
2 rows beetroot
lots of garlic (germidour and lautrec)
over wintered onions (radar)
spring sets (sturon)
We've had rain. Lots of it. It's washed all my mixed flower seeds away down the bank, and is making the already grotty compost we've put down for the grass seed even more grotty - dark brown liquid oozing out and into the new pond. *sigh*. Dilemma - do I continue to put my pots of seedlings outside during the day to harden off and risk more mouldy attacks, or leave them in the polytunnel to cook if the sun shines?? You just can't win with the weather can you? HOWEVER, it WILL be a nice summer this year. I have decided, therefore it will be so.
I got all my spuds in earlier in the week. Our soil isn't remotely dry though, all the snow melt has seen to that! I planted out 2 thirds of my tall peas yesterday and surrounded them with fleece. Apart from that only garlic is in the ground outside, spring brassicas, over-wintering onions and early peas are in the tunnel.
Rain and fog here in Yorkshire,
All my Chillies are currently indoors so they are nice and warm and dry like me
