  • Growth habit of sungold tomato plants

Hi, I'm growing these for the first time this year. They are getting plenty light but are growing alarmingly fast! They are also very wispy looking. As opposed to my maskotka which are nice and sturdy and robust. Does all sound well? They look like they will be a bit of a madman. Thanks

First time of growing Sungold for me Redser and I'm surprised how delicate they are compared to other types, so I am glad you posted! Hope this is the norm.

They do look more delicate than some other types, this is normal. Look after them the same as other types (pinch out the sideshoots and support with canes) and look forward to the taste

Seems to me they may need potting on.
Is the bottom half of the stem redish with lots of hair like spikes. If so these are the beginnings of new roots, they must be gradually buried ( potted on) into larger pots to grow on stronger. Hope this helps

                      Regards Jim

Thanks wetwalnut, but they are fine on that front. They are just racing away faster than any type I grew before.

Grow them every year and every year I delay my planting time a little further.

This year the seed went down into modules on the 16/03, germination began 0n the 21/03 and they went in to deep 3" pots on the 08/04. and now they are off.

I find with Sungold you always have to plant deep when you pot on but this of course makes for good strong plants in the end.

These little beauties will end up going to 5/6 trusses.
