Mine are in beds in the greenhouse and don't look as advanced as yours. Just for appeance sake I keep nipping the dead leaves off but thee's probably no need.

It never occured to me to use a tape measure! - You Genius! I go on guessing how far spacings should be, then I shove em in anyway!You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
