  • Damp onions.

I left my onion sets in the plastic bag they came in, the seem to have started to "sweat" and are really damp now, some even have a mildew on them. Do they need to go in the bin, can I compost them or if I dry them out can they still be used?

It's a lot of onions to throw away.

Give them a soak in water with a little bleach added. Then get them planted.

      Bleach? Really? Just a drop?

I'll definitely give that a go, thanks.

Some of mine got damp in the bag and started to sprout. I planted those up weeks ago in 7cm pots and they are doing really well and will be going out when the Spring finally arrives.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

When I bought a bag of bulbs, a few of these were squishy. Threw them to one side. Had a change of heart (felt sorry for them) and quickly shoved them in the ground elsewhere. 100% have sprouted. Have faith!

I have red onions coming on from seed.

I have them drying off in a few pots at the minute for a start.
