I was thinking about allotment plot sizes and the difference in sizes depending where your location is What is the size of your plot? and what do you grow most on the plot?
I'm also on Alldigging's allotment and have the dubious honour of having the largest plot at 214.4 sq metres.
As I only got the plot in the middle of last year I just got in what I could, mostly brassicas but also some toms, chillis, lettuce, pak choi, courgettes, turnips, raddish, french beans, spinach, beetroot, potatoes, rhubarb and peas.
Not many of each, but enough to make me feel like a proper gardener at last
This year I have much more of the plot available to use now that the drainage problems seem to have been sorted, so there will be plenty of soft fruits and herbs as well.
On our site the plots are now 5 rods (30ftx45ft) they used to be 10 (60x90).
I have 10 in total.
I got 2 rods of potato, 2 rods of sweetcorn, 2 rods of soft fruit and the rest is split between the usual suspects like peas, beans, brassicas, beetroot, leaf veg etc.
mine works out at 27x8m or 216 sq metres, plot next door is same size and now half filled with my spuds my plot has onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and lots of space for this weekend
don't be afraid to innovate and try new things
remember.........only the dead fish go with the flow
There isn't a set size on our site as far as I can tell. It depend partly on where about your plot is. Mine is roughly 12x15m. Roughly 3 quarters for assorted ver and a quarter for fruit.
I think 250 square metres or 10 rods/poles are classed as full size plots?
Our site rent is for 31 X 250 sq metres wheras we have 39 plot holders so our plots are roughly 3/4 size. I have two plots which equates to 1.5 full size plots!
