i found some small shoots the other week as the planks making the raised bed collapsed,i have put a new boarding around them and increased the soil depth by about 4ins,so they wont be far off, when the rain eases up a bit i will have a good look, last years funny weather meant that it didnt produce til 3rd week of june onwards, this year looks earlier despite the long cold spell,so its fingers crossed time again

have a very small bed of asparagus, its been moved there about three years ago and this week we have already eaten 8 shoots - 2 a day each today and yesterday ...luxury. but its very sparse - dont think there will be much.

Oh! I'd better have a look at mine at the weekend - I can eat a few stems of mine AT LONG LAST as it is it's third year.

I planted mine in november IIRC, theres no sign of it yet, I am resisiting the temptation to 'furtle' but thinking it should be popping up soon.
I'm looking forward to leaving it alone for 2 years!

Well I'm in Reading a similar distance west of London and found these today

These were planted as 1 year old crowns last year and I wasn't expecting to see anything yet so haven't got around to buying an asparagus knife yet. The advice from the supplier is that it is okay to harvest for a couple of weeks this year. Just wondering if anyone has further advice on how and when (what size etc) to harvest?
