. Just out of interest - I chucked a smattering of straw from the chicken shed down on the asparagus this morning - literally a single straw depth - is this likely to cause any problems since it's obviously not rotted?

No, the straw won't cause any problems to the asparagus bed - more likely to be a nuisance blowing around the garden.Comment
