It will be late this year as the weather has been so rubbish so don't worry.

So I'm not going to worry just yet then, thanks . Just out of interest - I chucked a smattering of straw from the chicken shed down on the asparagus this morning - literally a single straw depth - is this likely to cause any problems since it's obviously not rotted?sigpicGardening in France rocks!
