I am off tomorrow to get some Broad Bean seeds, what variety would you recommend for planting now?

Crimson flowered, without a doubt.
Pretty crimson flowers (you don't say!) short pods with just three emerald green beans. You don't have to 'double pod' them, and they taste brill!

Spring-sown broadies are more susceptible to black bean aphid than autumn-sown, because the foliage is softer & tastier.
Keep an eye on the blackfly.
Crimson flowered was far less attacked than my other varieties, but if it's the only variety you grow they may go for it, if there's nothing sweeter around. Plant some nasturtium at the feet of the beans. I'm trying Red Epicure at one end of the bed & Aquadulce Claudia at the other,for no scientific reason I just thought the different flowers might look nice

I planted some Bunyards about an hour ago. A long pod variety. Sown directly.
I got em from Poundland as a variety that comes in their bean multipack. I got some Ital Borlotti in the pack too, so they will go in in about 3 to 4 weeks time.

This year I'm growing sciabola verde from marshalls. Never grown them before but they are twice the height of others sown at the same time, Jan, (bunyards, aquadulce, karmazyn and masterpiece green longpod). Could be a variety thing or just better performers.
They're supposed to give good tasting bean with lots of beans per pod.The more help a man has in his garden, the less it belongs to him.

Noticed today that the crimson flowered in my polytunnel are about to flower. My outdoor ones are Dreadnaught and will be a while yet.
