  • Sowing cucs/courgettes/squashes?

Evening all! Hope everyone has had as good weather as we have here in Essex over the weekend!

I'm considering sowing my cucs, squash, courgettes, cucumbers and sweetcorn soon, perhaps this week... what does everyone think? Inside of course...

Monty started sowing his on Gardener's World this week.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

I've sown a lot of my squashes today, cucumbers a couple of days ago. Most of mine are going in the tunnel, but you're much further south than me so probably be okay. They need to be warm to germinate, mine are in a heater propogator, but a warm airing cupboard would do

Am planning to sow mine next weekend, have delayed a couple of weeks from normal due to the rubbish weather.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've got a couple of courgettes that need potting on as they've gone crazy sat on the window sill.

I 'risked' 8 mini pop seeds in loo rolls and popped them in the heated prop... all but one germinated 4 days later! Need to get some more in and those hardened off!

Planning on sowing cukes and some squash this week... along with so many other things that are on my to do list!

Yes, still getting frosts here Chris. The greenhouse is a min of 6c, which is where the tenders are living for a couple of weeks yet.
I won't rush to plant them out, even when frosts are past, because the nights are still too cold for tenders to make good growth.
I've done it before, planted too soon, and the plants sulk, turn yellow, then die.
They need a minimum, a very minimum, of 10c day and night

I sowed some of my squashes and cucumbers into modules last Monday, and put them into my poly greenhouse (I refuse to call it a polytunnel as it is only 8' long!) yesterday morning.

The coldest it has been in there over the past few nights has been 1.8 degrees, and the hottest was 40.9 so germination might be a bit stop-start for a while.

Nothing showing as of yesterday morning.
