I fancied growing pepper corns and looked it up a few years back. Piper nigrum. It is a perennial plant, climbing vine that (if I remember correctly!) can grow to 80ft or more, that is grown in hotter climates than ours. It will fruit in its early years although to get a decent crop you would have to wait until 8-10 years. http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...orn_16010.html
My Orange Habs that I over wintered are just starting to change colour, at this rate now its getting cooler in the GH I'll be bringing then back into the house.
My Madusa fruits have been ripening ok for a few weeks. Prairie Fire just turning now and other's all stubbornly green (anaheim/firecracker/thai birdseye). One big sweet red pepper (ramiro) is more red than green now too!
Woo!
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.
Anaheim (self saved seed) - Very quick to ripen and nice long chillis
Cayenne- Prolific and very quick to ripen for me.
Japapeno - Have been using these for a while now and some are now turning from green to red..Think I will pick most of them as I prefer them green.
Habanero - Most have turned to their orangey colour at this stage.
Satan's Kiss - The slowest of them all to flower, fruit and ripen..Have loads of chillis on the plants now, but only one single one has turned red so far..
First year I've grown chillies so don't know what to expect
Pretty in Purple - is just so pretty, you couldn't possibly pick one'
Lemon Drop has some green fruits and plenty of flowers (thanks VVG - where are you?)
Sweet Chocolate Pepper - fruits turning chocolate!
Alberto Locoto - just buds
I don't really want any of them to ripen as then I'd have to worry about eating them

Reason: smelling bad
My jalapenos got cut down to just one plant and after switching to bottom feeding/watering it seems to be doing much better.
Had a 2 inch on last night for tea and the TAM variety does live up to its mild (I would like more heat, but better something edible then inedible) but flavoursome description.
I have been pleasantly surprised by my chillies, I don't think any of the seeds even germinated last
year so I thought thy were really hard to grow.
Hence I never really took much interest in them until one day I notice these strange green things dangling from one plant! However the other plants still had flowers on them so I thought they will come to nothing however they have come to something as they all now have a crop of chillies dangling from them. One is even begin to colour turning brown, presumably on the way to going red.
They came in a multi-seed pack just said Chilli Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) it said not recommended for out door growing but mine seem to be doing OK, although it is getting late in the year now. However I can always bring them inside if it gets to cold I assume, they are quite a nice plant I think, not too big and would look nice and decorative on a window sill.
Never really eaten them before though, well not fresh ones, but I do used cayenne powder from time to time in cooking.
Can you just grate them up and put them in something?
Nice picture of them ripening here:-
Mine would look like between the 3rd and 4th except there is no yellow just brown.
Apache chillis are getting nice and ripe. My Fuego has 1 nice big chilli and now has only just opened up around 10 flowers, I hope they fully grow as its late in the year now!
