    In addition, it should not
apply to material intended to or maintained in gene banks, and networks of
conservation of genetic resources or organisations associated with gene banks as well
as material exchanged in kinds between two persons...'
That bit on it's own will effect Real Seeds - because it's an intermediary - so would be classed as a retailer.
Kokopelli (the French equivelent of Real Seeds) has already been taken to court for selling heritage seeds and lost it's case

I don't buy them anymore anyway. I like the idea of taking a seed variety and naturalising it to my bit of the world.

Anyone signed recently and know how many signatures are on the petition?

We don't accept this. Let us keep our seeds EU!

I'd be reading that as Real Seeds can breed their seeds but then just never sell them.

Do we know how much it will cost to 'list' a variety? It says that 'conservation varieties' will be exempt from GUS testing, but does the listing itself cost money aside from the personnel/administration/time?

Is there a "master" seed list or do each company have to list each variety they sell/breed ?

Given that this is generally known about,I am surprised that the independent seed sellers do not have petition forms on their stands at the various shows

The regulation quote that Sarz posted would protect the HSL and people trading seed, but it would be illegal for seed businesses to sell unregistered heirloom OP seeds.

It's making me cross-eyed trying to read this so early in the morning, but, I think seed swappers will be okay if I've read this bit right:

Good wording for use in any emails - from Garden Organic...

Stop the loss of plant biodiversity and protect the gardeners' right to exhange seeds and grow their heritage plants now! - News story from Garden organic

Nah,this is getting silly now & basically is coming down to "banging a gong" I looked at the Garden Organic post linked on Facebook by Zaz & noted ...........
If this directive is applied it will also mean gardeners will not be able to give seeds to their friends unless they are registered and licensed.
....... which is diametrically opposed to the earlier quote from the actual document posted earlier in this thread by Sarz

                              EDIT: http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/news...pic.php?id=907

You have just posted a link to the page that I just linked to in the post above yours. Is that what you meant to do?

It's not diametrically opposed - it says 'it should not apply' which as we know, should can mean whatever anyone wants it to mean...

If you don't want to read about people banging a gong, then you don't have to.
