As Guardian of the VSP will I be a criminal
If the proposals are so unclear that they are being interpreted in different ways by so many people/organisations, what hope is there without a No Vote.

I asked Real Seed Co. what it would cost them to register a seed, if it comes to the point that they have to, and they said it would be £1200 per variety, would have to be re-registered every year ('maintained') although they don't know if that will cost less, and, they can only register varieties that are on sale at the time the law comes into force. This could mean an awful lot more OP varieties dropping off the lists of ordinary, small seed merchants, such as Thomas Etty etc, because how are they going to afford £1200 a throw?

Unless they exempt small concerns, somehow, this is going to be bad news for OP seeds

It's not diametrically opposed - it says 'it should not apply' which as we know, should can mean whatever anyone wants it to mean...
        Nah DEFFO says ...............
This EU Directive, if approved, will result in a ban on future such activity unless every seed is registered and has an annual license paid for each variety. In the case of Garden Organic, with as many as 800 this could result in a the charity having to spend around £800,000 per year. If this directive is applied it will also mean gardeners will not be able to give seeds to their friends unless they are registered and licensed.

Yep that was why in my earlier post I thought it strange there were no petitions on "small suppliers" stands at EGS or RHS Cardiff,I would have thought the likes of MoreVeg & Pennard would be worried about this.
Were there any petition papers at Harrogate this week ?

            OP soz cannot figure it

I have no doubt that Sarz quoted correctly,my point was that Garden Organic have made a categorical announcement ................. "If this directive is applied it will also mean gardeners will not be able to give seeds to their friends unless they are registered and licensed."

It's the last draft that was released very recently that has got everyone riled. What is so hard to figure out?

OP = Open Pollinated. Not F1 seeds that anyone can self-save.

The link I posted and quoted from was passed on from elsewhere, I admittedly have no idea if that is the final document/law/anything. I would assume GO to be better informed than me, or at least have access to a legal team who will understand the full ramifications.

I will bring the handcuffs, pink or blue fluff.

Well we had to lighten the atmosphere a little.

Seriously, this proposal is so daft and unenforcable for the likes of us seed swappers. I wish I understood what it means for the likes of Real Seeds and the HSL though because all I've read is so woolly and contradictory that its hard to fathom what the impact could be.
Its tempting to stockpile even more seeds now!

Ooops, missed you Potty - black please, but not real fur!!

Lightening it some more - I vote black fluff - she has a wicked glint! I've seen it

Also we should start a secret society where we swap seeds underground. Two taps with a trowel gets you in. Start stashing and buying up your favourite varieties folks! Instead of an apron it'll be dirty hands and the handshake could be two fingered salute to the EU
