  • Aberdeen growers?

I'm looking for a good garden centre or two for buying veg seeds / plug plants / seed potato's? My firs thought was Dobbies, since they have really yummy cake, but it tends to be on the expensive side, I want to get as much done this weekend as I can so really need to get get looking for what I want to plant.

I know I'm doing a grow bag or Strawberrys, on of Tomatoes and a few pop up laundry baskets for potatoes. but other than that I don't know. Everything will be in bags though as we may be moving, I hope! So any tips of what grows well in bags would be also be much appreciated

Where in Aberdeenshire are you Lilith?

We weren't that impressed with Happy Plant at Mintlaw. There is a good nursery near Westhill, and the one at Daviot is fairly good too. Decent one just north of Turriff on the Banff road.

Canna mind the names of these though.
Quanti canicula ille in fenestra ?

        We are at Alford.

I the one at Westhill is called Fox something (Foxlane?) and had a huge selection last year. From Portlethen it is easy to get to via Peterculter. Take the Westhill road and turn right when you eventually get to a roundabout.

Dobbies is actually ok, selection wise by the way

its not too expensive? i just figured with a big name and being such a big chain or stores it maybe wouldn't be as good as a smaller single garden centre :/ I will look in there anyway since I really want a slice of cake lol! Saturday I will go visit a couple of those you said, thank you I hope this weather sticks around a bit so I can get some bits started.

It can be quite dear for some stuff, yeah.

I work on the principal that 2 breakfasts with tea and toast for just over a fiver tends to subsidise elsewhere in the store

I like Foxlane Foxlane Garden Centre Official Website near Westhill which provides work for adults with special needs. I also use Parkhill out by Dyce.

I get my seed tatties from the ironmonger in Inverurie Square and find it well worth the trip, they also do a range of seeds and plants and if you are in Inverurie there is another large garden centre across the bridge from the train station.

I also was not impressed with Happy Plant - a long way to go for expensive plants. The garden centres near Stonehaven and Drumoak are also OK but a bit on the expensive side.

Foxlane is the name OITC and I were trying to think of last night Plot10
I do like the range they have.

I work across the street from the ironmonger in Inverurie. It's not a bad wee place. If you can get to Daviot then they have a better seed potato selection imho. The garden centre in Inverurie has nice coffee and cakes upstairs too
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Other half is googling Daviot as we speak Thank you so much

Another vote for Foxlane here (used to live in Aberdeen), although I've not seen it since they moved out to Westhill. The head guy was always very knowledgeable!
