Last year we had masses of a tall spiny bramble like weed at the bottom of the garden. In the end I went over it with the lawnmower, sprayed it with ***** fluid and it went away. It's back with a vengeance. Seems to spread by putting up suckers from an extensive root system, and the young leaves look very similar to raspberry leaves. What is it, and how do I get rid of it?

Many of the rambles around here are green and fleshy with red spines when young. And they don't produce any fruit. Totally pointless!Le Sarramea https://jgsgardening.blogspot.com/

Dig it out.
I have the same thing in my garden, where there has never been a bramble. I assume it's seedlings from blackberries that have gone in the compost heapAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
