If you have a spare corner on your plot its worth planting it. If it turns into an ornamental cherry or something completely different you can always dig it up again - or keep it for its flowers
I wonder why it was uprooted? Did the previous occupants intend to take it with them - and forgot? Curious!!

Yes good idea , The previous tenant passed away i believe :-( anyway i will be posting more questions and seeking advice as i have lots to learn. My allotment is really overgrown at the moment but i got a years free rent because of this. just started digging it but its hard getting through the matted grass into the soil :-( to turn it over. And i cant afford a petrol strimmer at the moment he he Planning on making a fish smoker over the summer to anyone have any ideas on this?

Why don't you pop over to the "Introduce yourself" thread and tell the others a bit about yourself and your plans. You'll get lots of answers to your questions - one of the first ones will be, cover your matted grass with cardboard until you're ready to use the ground. It'll weaken the grass and you can just cut holes in the cardboard and plant big things, like squashes or potatoes straight into it.
