My old dad always used to say, 'If a vegetable is hardly known or grown, it's because it's generally no good.' Sadly I have found there's a lot of truth in that over the years, though I like crosnes (Chinese artichokes) and some of the 'rare' stuff is now common. But rampion seed I found was like dust, and although I did my best in sowing it in various conditions, I didn't get a single plant. Perhaps the seed was no good. Whatever happened to skirret which was supposed to be the 'next big thing' a few years ago? I found the roots of that were about a centimetre across and pretty tasteless too, hardly worth the effort. Sorry.... I'm sounding like an old misery who never tries anything new... which I do all the time... but for every successful novelty there must be a dozen or more which aren't worth growing!
