  • Tom Ties

I've spent some time this afternoon cutting up a pair of old tights (no, not American tan ) and I've managed to get 67 ties for my tomatoes. I find they are not as harsh as twine. What do you use for securing the tomato stems?

Flo I use tights as well, plus I give them a good wash at the end of the season.

That's a good idea Flo! I used that twisty tie but have since bought green Velcro on a roll from the £shop which is better.

My dad bought me some little metal rings that bend open and closed and just hang at a leaf node, provides support but is wide and flexible. Works for me but is more expensive than the tights option, not that I wear tights, etc.......

Couldn't find the Velcro last year and refused to buy more, found it yesterday in a plant pot. Should be much easier at end of season to rip the ties off.

I am guessing that the high heels enable you to reach the top fruit?
