Melons ?

Planted a few seeds of 2 varieties in a small glass propogator I had, I had had the seed from last year but thought I would have a go.
Well 2 have germinated, one of each variety (cross pollination?).

The minor problem is this: How do you grow melons?
I have basically not a clue.

Present guess will be half a bag of manure, half a bag of compost in a large pot ~20" with 2 or 3 canes for support.

For information varieties are Alaska and Minnisota Midget.

this is mine from last year
i've grown them in my greenhouse for the last couple of years, in large tubs, up a bamboo cane, ones from my neighbour so that when the melons start getting heavy i can put the fruit into onion nets and hook them onto the cane to stop the vine snapping, i managed 1/2 fruits per plant, they grow really long, once the first fruit starts to swell i remove the leaves below that fruit to encourage the fruit, i used tomato feed on mine, they seem to like it... good luck

Oooh yummy I'm gonna have to fi my greenhouse to grow these next year!!

Pretty much as Lisa says for me, except I grew up strings attached to the wire that runs the length of my polytunnel. 2 Emir plants yielded 3 fruit per plant. They're recommended for the UK's variable climate.
