All very interesting...
My irritation with Carol Klein is not only her voice, it's what she says and how she says it. She describes a pair of secateurs as "...most wonderful and beautiful". For goodness sake, it's a tool ! My secateurs are not wonderful and beautiful. They are clogged up with mud, not sharp enough and frequently go missing. I live in fear that one day from behind a bush will come her grinning face. Sorry, if you like her..
Anyway...Alan Titchmarsh has probably lost his accent because he has spent so much time in London over the years. I see he's going a bit grey now, which is quite attractive. But he's too clean..Monty, on the other hand, is rough and rugged. That aside, he tackles the ordinary issues that I am concerned with and his "jobs for the week" does encourage me to get out there. I would like to see Alys Fowler back again.
What a variety of ways of getting rid of slugs. I cannot possibly cut them up, or squish them. I have no river to chuck them into, and the only way I would throw them into next door's garden was if there was a chicken run within throwing distance - which there isn't.
I do think slugs have a homing device. I once took a few slugs to a nearby green and wasn't convinced they wouldn't find their way back. They might be able to communicate with each other beyond our hearing. Anything's possible.
So far no slugs on my newly planted courgettes, although I have seen babies lurking. The pellets are definitely working. Next task, buy some organic pellets and select bucket for nematoding (?).
